2006 Murano - engine runs fine, but won't rev or move in drive or reverse

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2006 Murano - driving onto highway yesterday the car stopped accelerating
and coasted to a stop.  The engine starts and runs easily.  In park or neutral
the engine revs out like normal, but once put into drive or reverse nothing
happens when you step on the gas.  The engine rpms do not change and
the car will not move.  I checked the emergency brake, but it is not engaged.
It has an AWD switch if that matters, but we were not using that.

It ended up being the alternator. I think the throttle is controlled electronically and there wasn't enough juice to open the throttle when it was in gear. Had the alternator replaced and it ran fine, until the replacement alternator died and the same thing happened again. Fortunately it was under warranty. The second time around I believe it was the check engine and brake light came on (I think it was these two) and apparently having both come on at the same time is actually a warning signal that your alternator is going to fail in the immediate future.

GuruBS5KT, any luck on your car coz i have the same problem with my 2005 Nissan Murano, the rpm responses when in park or neutral, but no rpm response when in drive or reverse. Please share your experience with us coz i already cleaned the throttle body and i replaced the fuel pump sensor inside the fuel tank but still the same problem.

This sounds exactly like a customers car I have now. It left me stranded. Gonna go pull the battery and charge it. Then see if I can limp it back and save a tow bill. I had both the brake light on, battery light and check engine light on. I jumped it and it ran a few minutes so I decided to take it for a quick road test. Customer thinks its a transmission problem. I'll update y'all later.

Having the same issue. Brake light, alternator light and engine light came on. Went to pull out of my driveway and no response. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, and it engaged. Turned the vehicle off let it sit, same thing happened. I've also had this weird beeping after replacing the alternator (used one that is.
