What would be the estimated cost of replacing an engine in a 2006 Nissan Titan?

Asked by EEFox Nov 05, 2012 at 05:14 PM about the 2006 Nissan Titan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2006 Nissan Titan from a local car shop but had Nissan dealership check it out before buying.
They said it was in great shape and they would put it on their lot for $15K.  Today the catalytic converter
broke and according to dealership was 'sucked' in to the engine and now the engine is shot.   Same
dealership is telling me it will be $10,000 to replace the engine.

I've seen this on sentra ser's (2.5 l) but never seen or heard of it on any other nissans also in 4.5 years at nissan have yet to even hear of anyone replacing a titan engine so if it is really shot then getting a used one is probably your best bet or it might be cheaper for them to do a short block (new block with your heads and other components) might be cheaper.
