cayenne turbo oil consumption

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Is it normal for a 2006 cayenne turbo to consume 1 quart of synthetic oil (0/w40) every 2,500 miles. I find that every month or so I have to add a quart of oil to the car. My mechanic has inspected the car and there are no oil leaks. thanks.

Can't say specifically for your vehicle, but in general it's not unusual for any force induction engine to burn a noticeable amount of oil between changes. Although I believe Porsche states a quart every 800 miles as acceptable for any of their vehicles. If you take issue with it, you can switch to a heavier oil and that may lessen or alleviate your problems. Your owners manual should have a table of what weights are acceptable for various temperature ranges. I think Porsche only recommends 0w40,5w540,10w40, and 5w50 for vehicles after 1984, but like i said it should be in your manual somewhere.
Try adding Mobil 1 5W40 or (German)Castrol Syntec 0W30. The Cayenne Turbo has loose piston tolerances when cold.
I had a similar oil use issue with my Audi A5, a quart every 1000 mi or so. Dealer tried to "fix it" several times saying it was a software issue. Finally, after 2 years and being in my dealers face he performed the proper fix, an engine overhaul. Seems the pistons in many Porsche and Audi cars have pistons manufactured "not quite to spec" and oil leaks thru this thin void! My work was done under warranty, but they really don't want to perform this expensive fix. Car runs great since work was done.
