I HAVE A 1999 9.5 SAAB TURBO STATION WAGON, JUST PURCHASED IT 2 WKS AGO. SOMETIMES IT STARTS RIGHT UP, OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE IT STARTS, ANY IDEAS?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

LOVE THIS VEHICLE, LAST OWNER TOLD ME THAT SOMETIMES THIS CAR DOES THAT, BUT IT IS A GLICH, AND ONCE YOU STEP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL A FEW TIMES YOU ARE GOOD TO GO.  IT DOES, HOWEVER, I AM CONCERNED A LITTLE BECAUSE SMOKE COMES FROM THE EXHAUST WHEN I START IT UP.  ON THE ROAD IT PERFORMS BEAUTIFULLY.  SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?  ALSO A QUESTION, I NEED TO KNOW THE NAME OF A PART WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE INTAKE HOSE, IT IS LOCATED TO THE EXTREME RIGHT, AND IT IS A CURVED RUBBER HOSE.  THE LAST OWNER MADE ONE FROM PVC PIPE, AND IT SEEMS TO DO THE JOB, BUT HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD RUN A WHOLE LOT BETTER IF I HAD THE PROPER PART.  CAN'T FIND IT ANYWHERE ONLINE.
APPRECIATE ANY INFO.  THANKS HAVE AN AWESOME DAY.

Hi there, looks like these posts might e quite old.. am I in a ghost town? Anyway I have the same two issue with my recently-acquired 1999 9-5 wagon. The starting issue.. just make certain you have the clutch all the way to the floor, and it's all the way in Reverse. If it isn't starting right up mash the clutch. As to the smoke, I just asked a question about that trying to find out myself but no answer yet. Good luck!

Little smoke on start up is probably your turbo. I would suggest joining saabcentral.com lots of good and free info on all saabs.
