Was the other crank sensor bad
If the other one was ok. Go ahead and put it back. Possible you got a bad crank sensor. You didn't disconnect any grounds. I know there's a few on top of valve cover
yes a family friend hooked a machine up to it and the code it sent said a bad crankshaft sensor, but before all this the car ran fine up until replacing the coil pack, the crank sensor was put on later. the car ran on the old coil pack but machine said I needed a new one so when we replaced it it never would start after that. tried two different ones plus put the old one back on after that to see if we got a bad coil pack and still nothing, what baffles me is the car ran before all this, we did unhook the positive side of the battery terminal when working on it the first time, but we have also tried unhooking the battery for a while and all that cause we thought it may be an immobilizer issue, but still nothing, we are completely at a loss at this point, and we were trying not to take it to a garage if at all possible, you can tell it tries hard to start, its like its getting fuel but something is keeping it from completely starting, when we first tried to start it after putting on the new coil pack it would just turn over, then after we put the crank sensor on it is doing more then before, you can hear it fire but just wont start.
also when I pulled the plug wire to test it, tried to start it and the wire has a spark for about a second then it dies off and the engine just turns over and over, but for that second at least it tries to start.
sounds like you musta screwed up something.I can help more if i know what the engine type is 1.8L or 2.8L also a side note here is there is a small grounded box attached to the coil pack that requires a proper grounding for the coil to work. also be sure the crank sensor is installed correctly. its possible to install the parts backwards by mistake. I would also suggest going over the fuses and the plug harnesses to make sure you did not miss something that you ment to plug back in or for frays and dirty grounds.
to answer your question deathjam4, it is a 2.0L, also everything was put back exactly how it was taken apart, that is why we were so stumped by the car not starting afterwards, we checked all fuses, all good, also when we took the spark plug wire off of the actual plug and left the other end on the coil pack to test the wire, what would cause it to spark for a second long enough for the car to try to start then once it died off, the car just crank over, its getting gas because you can hear the fuel pump kick on, and smell gas while trying to start, anymore help you have deathjam4 would be much appreciated!
hmm.... hows the igniton ? is there any looseness or play when you pop the key in? this is ussaly a problem with the later modals probly not the case here. Try this pop your key in the ingiton and turn to power on and leave the driviers door open.*do not crank it over* leave it like this for 15 minutes before then flipping the key back to power off then try starting it. Might help might not. this will help in 2 ways. realigning the throtle body and resyncing the key if it had at some point been desynced. Try scanning the car with some rosstech software and see what it throws up. you can get the program and a harness from amazon preaty cheap then all you need is a laptop. post anything you find here. oh and check the crank case hoses and vacum lines and start back tracking the issue start at double checking the plugs then the wires then the coil and so forth .
Did you ever figure out what it was Sherri I’m having the same exact issue and can’t figire it out
Undid this ever get figured out?
