Car alarm goes off when trying to start car

Here’s what happened. My 1999
Volkswagen convertible cabrio can’t
handle the cold so well. The lock on the
outside freezes when I try to lock it and a
friend made a mistake and locked it. We
tried defreezer on the lock and that came
out. I climbed through the trunk to try and
unlock it from the inside but none of the
buttons will work and trying to start it sets
the alarm off. Does anyone even know
what to do in this situation? We were
thinking of disconnecting and reconnecting
the battery and seeing if that works.

Yea cars don't like being manually unlocked from the inside its a security feature. If you want to help that lock out you should take it out and clean it and then use some grease to free it up and keep it from freezing. The locks from the factory had grease in them but at this point its likely dried right up so metal on metal tends to freeze together and causes a lot more friction.as for your alarm just unlock and relock the doors and the alarm should go off from the key fob
