1999 passat passenger side mirror and asr button
I just bought a 1999 passat with no owners manual. How do I adjust the passenger side rear view mirror to a level I can see behind me while in reverse? What is the asr button for, what does it do?

there should be a button on the door panel to adjust the mirrors... shouldn't be too tough. ASR is Active Slip Response. it helps you in icy or snowy situations. basically it cuts power to the wheels that are slipping so they can turn slower to regain traction. if you push the button a light should light up the instrument panel. when the light is lit up the ASR IS OFF. if you never push the button asr stays on. i recommend that if you don't know how to adjust your mirrors then you should leave the asr button alone.
Using the button to adjust the mirrors is not the problem. The problem is when the car is in reverse the passenger side mirror automatically adjust to a level that I can't see behind the car. The button to adjust the mirrors is not adjusting or fixing this problem to a level which gives a better view while in reverse.

The deluxe Passat model, as in some Audis, have a setting that dips the passenger side mirror to allow you to see the curb when parallel parking. Move the mirror control to another position and it will not dip.
