Please list the engine spec for each vehicle and whether or not the rear brakes are drum or disk.
most parts from the 1996 -2001 models of vw or even audi a4's are interchangable. as long as the body style is roughly the same it should work. as far as i know the rear brakes were all drums on the vw modal for all the 2 wheel drive modals.
GTIs, GLIs, and VR6 models tended to have rear disk brakes. 1999 saw a major model change from Mk3 to Mk4 with several chassis changes. I found a nifty site with ETKA-style information for our cars. http:// www. partscats. info/ (remove the spaces for the actual link). It's always better to know the partnumbers before heading to the salvage yard.
I wasn't aware a 2.5L was available in the Mk4 Jetta. What is your location?
So...your 2000 Jetta equates to a Bora in the parts database and the 1998 equates to the Vento. Part numbers for rear axle stubs are significantly different. At this point, I would recommend sourcing a new or remanufactured axle stub.
