What could be wrong when you stop and have trouble getting the key to turn off of a 2003 xc Volvo?

I have a 2003 XC Volvo and when I stop and try to turn the key off, I have problems and have to keep turning the wheel. Finally will shut off.

I concur. I had the same problem. I could shut-off the engine, However, the key could not be taken from the Ignition. New spring in the 'shift knob' and it works just fine now.

There are many kits online to repair this. In the meantime, if you hit the shift knob with your fist a couple times, the button should pop back out. This is a fairly common problem on older V70s, too

I found it helpful to NOT HIT the gear-shifting mechanism. I just felt around the button, accessing the situation, bought a new "spring" and had it installed. What else are you damaging as you 'hit the shift knob"??

According to other Volvo enthusiasts, nothing is being damaged. You have to be somewhat gentle.
