I have a 2000 S70, approx. 196,000 miles. the car is shifting very abruptly. I had the car diagnosed by a transmission garage and they said it was a valve solenoid.

The garage is pricing around for a reman. valve solenoid, is this going to be costly?

The garage was telling me that they can cost $300 to $800 and sometimes have to remove the transmission in order to fix it. Thanks for your expertise.

Tom - the garage has proposed replacing the entire valve body and not just the one solenoid. They also want to replace the speed sensor. They have said that usually replacing the parts this way fixes the problem 80% of the time. Their quote for the work is $1,300.
