bring it to your mercedes dealership. show them your little puzzle. certainly this is the first I've heard of this unique problem....I can suggest don't try n' snap it in willy-nilly, but consider directionality by looking at whatever 'teeth' hold it together and approach it from the direction it came apart.

As described in my question above, this "close trunk partition" comment just happened and I can't all of a sudden lower the top to the trunk. It's a 2007 SL550 with 18,000+ miles.
