87 dakota chassis for scamp motorhome - good idea or not?

Asked by brumby13 May 15, 2012 at 11:37 AM about the 1987 Dodge Dakota

Question type: General

I am buying a small 18 foot motorhome and found a really nice one built on an 87 dodge dakota truck chassis.  It's a V6.  I'd like to ask:

1.  What kind of gas mileage do you think it will get?
2.  I don't care about speed, but do you think it will be pretty reliable?
3.  Is this year/model carb or fuel injected?
4.  Will parts be around for awhile?

Any advice is appreciated!

I owned a 88 dodge dakota. 1. gas milage was about 15winter & 17 ona good day easy driving summer. 2. My truck never let me down just look at the frame, my frame was pretty solid my dads 91 however rotted under the drivers door. 3. My 88 was fuel injected and I think the 87 were also. but you will have to look at the motor to see if there is a carb. 4. Parts were pretty easy to find for me giving mine was a sport model so im sure the regualar model will about the same.

Sorry didnt see the V6 part. So is the motor a 3.9L? mine was and it was really reliable. had enough power to do things but not to break.

in 87 they were still carborated if i remember correctly because my old pickup was an 88 and it was the first year of throttle body fuel injection

I have a 1987 dodge dakota with tilt steering . The steering colum is loose will that cause it not to crank
