its not the fuel pump i just fixed that and it worked for a day the next day it started back again. it dos not start right away u get half a mile and it sounds like its running out of gas still backfiring but if u barely touch the gas it will slowly gain speed.

sounds like it could very easily be a carb issue. might need a rebuild/cleaning.

Sounds like the gas flow is being restricted at some point. The carb isn't receiving enough gas when you accelerate but it does receive enough to keep it running at an idle. The problem could be clogged jets in the carb (one option).

it starts fine but it will start to idle up and down i cleaned it with a whole can of carb cleaner it run fine for a min or 2 than a rough idle. and how much dos it cost to rebuild a 2 barrel holly

Check the restrictor on firewall. My trucks doing same thing and only person giving me a straight answer was a chick at autozone. If u find answers to problem it helps others when u give it on here.

87 Dodge Power Wagon The 360 and 318 are the same. The fuel pump is mechanical. Now, looking at the front of the truck, walk up look into the engine compartment, on the left side look down at the alternator, now look right underneath the alternator tucked away in side you'll see the fuel pump. You can almost not see it at all because that's why everybody asked where it is. And now have fun trying to see the pump, let alone the bolts that you half to take out! HINT:: Look for a mirror or better yet look between the brackets on top the alternator. Still can't see the bolts? Try looking through one eye? I know because I'm going through this as we speak!!

My 1983 w150,318, was doing the same thing. Replaced mechanical nl fuel pump, fuel filter, carb, plugs, wires, coil, everything except the kitchen sink. Would run great most of the time. Recently left me on the side of the road. I thought it was vapor locked. I plugged the return line coming off the fuel filter. It fired right up. I'll be installing a new see through fuel filter without no the damn return no line.
