I replaced the starter in my friend's '07 jeep liberty, it still only starts intermittently. What else could be the problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

'07 jeep liberty. There was corrosion
on the negative battery stud, I
cleaned it with a brush and put all-
purpose grease on both battery
studs.

Sounds like a bad battery, there is possible electrolyte leakage between the negative battery pole and the casing, causing it to corrode. This will negatively affect the battery capacity and its ability to start the engine.
