i have a 1985 golf that runs for 2 seconds and dies it has fuel pressure all the way up to the manual injector any ideas?

Could be a cracked float in the carb that fill with petrol then floods the engine after a short amount of time
It might be the cold temp starting sensor very common problem on the MK1 and MK2's, it will be located in the top rad hose going into the head, there may be one or two round sensors there, a black one and blue one, unplug the blue one and try starting it, it if starts replace that sensor.
check head for cracks, could be loss of compression!! also cold start sensor.does it stay running if u rev it hard 4-5.500 rpm, possible air/fuel mixture, plugs, H.T leads etc. process of elimination my mate.
I Agree with the cold temperature sensor. Pick up a haynes manual and it has instructions on how to test all the peices in the ignition system. Picking up a cold temperature sensor from the wreckers might settles this a bit quicker for you.
