Most manufacturers recommend 5w-30 for all cars now. Even if they originally said 10W-30, they now say that 5W-30 is totally fine too. I know that Ford did this. If it gets REALLY cold where you are, 5w-30. Otherwise 10W-30 would be fine too.
DO NOT USE 5W30 (like that other responder mentioned) in 98 or older vdubs you will ruin the engine ! Ask any dealer they will tell u the same, ALL volkswagens 98 and older use 15W40 diesel grade, doesn't matter if its a 1.8, 2.0 gas or the 1.6, 1.9 diesel engines they ALL use 15W40, failure to use this grade of oil in noted engine 98 and older will severely damage it.
There are certainly just as many prophets as there are car-brands.... You can usa almost any well-known brand of oil. I would recommend the new Valvoline MAXLIFE. Otherwise the Castrol GTX 15W-40 High milage. good luck Jan
the chap who told you 2 use 15w40 grade oil is correct , dont put any other grades in your car it could damage your engine !jk
I put 15w40 in my rabbit, golf, and jetta
what would a 1986 golf gas take the motor is a 1.8
What oil can I use in my golf 4 1.8 1999 model with 210000 kilometers on
