that is a art just over snug they break off very easy you have to get a feel for them just tight anymore and snap the torque setting is not for a 25 year old car

The torque is 14 ft/lbs. Use a small wrench to avoid overtightening. The sumps distort over time and leak, replacements are available, and the bolts can be replaced, too. There's even a sump cover made of aluminum that seals even better.

Hector: Thank you very much for this information. Is this a published number, or a torque established by experience? Wayne May

It's from John Muir's book. The sump cover and bolts you can get anywhere, along with the gasket set.
