I have a 1971 VW Beetle that has been stored since 1988 (24yrs) in TX in a barn that I would like to tow to colorado (800mi). I have the tow bar. I can get the tires replaced. What needs to be done for towing? Front wheel bearings greased? Rear wheels? Should I get a car dolly and tow with rear wheels on dolly? I can't tow a full size auto trailer (too much GW). Any suggestions or cautions?

I think you are on the right track with changing the tires before you tow. Since it has be stored, it might be a good idea to have the bearings checked and greased. A test tow with the tow bar would be a good idea to ensure the bug tracks behind the tow vehicle OK. I towed several bugs on a tow bar and have always done fine. If the front end is out of alignment it won't do so well thus the reason for the test tow. Putting an old car on a trailer is always a good idea, but since you are weight limited, it will tow on all 4s fine. Make sure it is in neutral with the emergency brake off. Walmart has magnetic tow lights that work great. Good luck
