My bug just shut off randomly and hasn’t started since any idea what it could be?

Asked by Cleopatrick Oct 13, 2019 at 09:07 PM about the 1972 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I tried jumping it it didn’t work so I don’t
believe it’s the alternator, my belt is a little
loose though I’ve tightened it up still nothing. I
replaced the cables from the distributor cap to
the spark plugs still nothing it also has a
brand new coil but one of the wires constantly
comes off and that’s cause the car to stop but
it was on when my car stopped. I think it’s
more of an electrical issue than a gas issue
but I could be wrong

It could be something as simple as a loose coil wire. If you’re able to diagnose a few things, check for spark. If you’re still at a stump, try to find the John Muir book that covers 99 percent of VW problems or situations. Look it up online completel book of Volkswagen for idiots or something like that. Don’t let the title put you off millions of the book has been bought used and cherished for the help the book has provided and written in simple and easy to understand words. Millions of books and untold millions of happy readers
