bug wont start unless hooked to jumper cables what could the problem be?

Asked by Chelseamk Dec 15, 2013 at 06:55 PM about the 1969 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 69 VW bug and its been running really good except for recently it started dying on me hooked it up to jumper cables then it would run fine then the other day it wont start at all no lights no noise when I turn the key nothing so we hooked jumper cables up to it and it started right up but as soon as I disconnect the cables it dies my guess is wiring but where and I know its not the starter
any one have an idea on what it could be or any suggestions on how to find the problem?

Battery bad, poor battery connections, bad alternator/generator. I believe if you check the listed items you will be able to get it back to starting again.

I used to have a 1960, after so many tries I discover was a wire connected but loose on the Lights switch. and nothing else.
