My lovely bug has lost reverse!!!!!!!!

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i accidently started it in reverse gear yesterday, and now when i go for the reverse gear, the mechanism  works and it slips in exactly where it should but I get no bite at all, and obviously it just stalls.

I have only had it for two days and am totally gutted. I thought i had checked everything thoroughly before buying it, and drove it quite extensively in forward and reverse and it was extremely smooth. I trust the guy I bought it from, but he only speaks portuguese (im in brasil), so i can't explain to him what has happened. Help!! and or advice will be very welcomed.
