My 2002 VW Beetle 1.6 has sudden lost power

My 2002 VW Beetle 1.6 has sudden lost power and the exhaust gases are white / light
grey and there is a sweet smell / like Petroleum.  It sounds like some cylinders are not
firing and the idle is lumpy with low revs
