What is the commonly recommended engine Oil for a 1972 VW Beetle?

The newer VeeDubs use a Euro spec oil. The '72 air cooled engine could use any of the modern oils. I would probably go with a synthetic 5W30. --- I actually have to read Bob's recommendations to see what my next oil should be. My GM oil life monitor says 30% left so I'll need a oil change in the next couple months.

I have bought a 2003 VW Beetle This car is a trip the damn engine light is on now! But I think it's because the car is wired incorrectly. Doesn't that make sense?

I have had VW bugs since 1959. Always used straight 30wt . That is also what the Book For VW idiots recommends. Only thing is it's hard to find It these days.
