Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1973 VW Beetle - My Generator light keeps coming on and the engines dies when my speed goes below about 8mph.  What do I need to replace and how difficult is it?  Can I do it myself or willl I need to take it to a mechanic?

sounds like a bad alternator to me. I would imadgine you can do that your self. Take it out and take it to your local autozone and ask them to test it. This will be the best way to find out if this is the cause or not.
