I have a 1974 Beetle. How can I tell which model?

Asked by Michael Feb 24, 2010 at 02:59 AM about the 1974 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: General

I need to get a manual to begin fixing it up. I don't believe it's a Super Beetle, the spare tire sits vertically
in the front. The title says P2D under type, and 1111 under model name. Thanks in advance for any help!

The best way to get your exact model is through the VIN number. You can decode it with the help of www.thesamba.com or even call your local Volkswagen dealer and they will tell you. First if it is a '74 and the spare is vertical and the winshield is flat it is deffinatly not a super beetle. So you would have a standard regular beetle with a 1600 CC engine.
