Why do you want to tow a van with a Volvo 240 ?. Well if you get your brakes upgraded it should not be dangerous. But you would have to makes sure your car is tottaly gone over by a machanic. Before pushing it that hard. And dont go over 50mph (80 kms) with a heavy load like that behind your Volvo. Good luck. Matt.

a caravan is a UK term for a travel trailer. your Volvo should have no problem talking this as it's rated at 3300 pounds towing capacity.

Towing the max towing capacity 3300lbs should be fine with brakes on trailer. And all your maintenance on the Volvo is up to date. Check all fluids every few hundred miles. Being rear wheel drive these vehicles haul heavy loads with ease. Pulled a truck and boat weighing 8000 lbs out from the water with a 1986 Volvo 760 Turbo with the Volvo factory hitch 3500lbs max. Shocked it didnt damage the hitch!
