1989 Nissan D21 extended cab 4x4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently got a 1989 Nissan D@ 4x4 extended cab pick up with a 3.0 engine. I got it for free, it was running well at the time. W had to do some welding on the bed frame  and so on, besides the point. While working on it I found the fuel tank had several holes and cracks I replaced the tank. After putting it all back together it will not start, seems like there is no fuel getting to the carb. My questions are. How do I prime the fuel pump, is it a better idea to just replace the whole fuel pump and sending unit and if replacing is the case, where can I find one.

If the fuel pump is in the tank I would have replaced it when , you had the tank out if it is it needs a good ground & power , pour some fuel in the carb and see if it fires up ,check for fuel pressure .

Yes it does start when I put fuel in the carb but then stalls. Guess my original thought was correct, replace the pump/sending unit. To be honest I guessed I would have to when I first took the pump assembly out of the tank. It is the original unit and the Truck has 310K miles on it. Thanks for your answer.

Thanks, I had to take the bed off and make welding repairs on the bed frame. I reinforced the frame with 1/8 in thick by 3 inch mild steel Strips, I reinforced the cross members with channel iron. I also replaced the rocker panels and cut out the rust and welded in new 18 gage sheet metal. I added several photos of before and after
