I have a 1989 D21 King Cab 2.4 fuel injected

Asked by billybadd22 Apr 12, 2016 at 10:36 PM about the 1989 Nissan Pickup

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1989 D21 w/2.4, with 5 speed manual transmission. The vehicle starts for just a second then dies and then will only crank. No spark  from ignition. I replaced with remanufactured distributor, distributor cap, ignition rotor, spark plugs. Still same thing starts for brief second, dies and then only cranks. Could not find a troubleshooting tree.

Check your battery. If battery is weak and you're cranking, you're going to flood the cylinder and thus wet the spark plugs. Pull a plug, smell for gas then check with a light to see the level of gas. If you have gas in there you need to blow it out and let it dry, then recoat with a few squirts of oil. Additionally, if you have gas in the cylinders in all likelihood you're going to have it in the oil so you'll need to do an oil change as well. You mentioned you replaced distributor, cap, rotor and spark plugs. How about the wires? Have you been able to check your fuel pressure as well?
