Here's another crazy question. What year was the Trans Am used in "Smokey and the Bandit," was it a '78 or "79?

Three TAs were used in the series and each car was the model year of the year the movie was made - 1977, 1980, and 1983. The popularity of the original movie doubled the sales of the 1977 model year over the 1976 model year. Hope that helps!
it was a 77 and the reason the 78 looks the same as the 77 is because of the sales were so good for 77 they didnt want to cahnge anything and the only way to tell a 77 from a 78 is in the stiching and maybe some other interor things but other than that they are the same car
the bandit trans am was neither it was a 1977 400 auto special edition.. there was only one 78 trans am that was given to burt reynolds by PONTIAC MOTOR DIVISION and he then sold it to NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT to museum it off.. it now sits in a museum in kentucky with alot of other movie and tv cars...
What I have heard itś a 76 with a 77 front in the first movie.
the part about the 78 is incorrect , burt reynolds was promised a brand new 1978 Trans Am if the movie helped jum the cars sales , which it did , but inbetween the time when the promise was made and the movie debuted , the president of pontiac switched hands , and the new president refused to honor the deal , so burt had to go out and buy one.
