2006 Chevy Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Malibu is at 148,000 miles.
Car switches into gear fine. Reverses and goes into
drive OK.
The problem is when it's driving. It doesn't go past
40. (40-45 mph) if the RPMS are between 3 and 4
It drives OK and doesn't go past.  NOW if the RPM's
goes to 4 the car makes a noise. And the rpm
starts to fluctuate. So we keep it under 4 rpms and
drive locally. 40 mph

Have the catalytic converter checked. If it is plugged up, it would cause this. Take it for a ride and stop in a dark place, then look under the car at the cat. If it is plugged up, it will be glowing orange.

Cat is NEW, just replaced it. Thermostat replaced. O2 sensor as well. I will double check the cat glow. Bought parts that need to be replaced. Plus the gas is being used quickly. SMH someone said POSSIBLY FUEL PUMP? however the car turns on with no problem.

Try putting gas in it. Shuting off then start. Mine does this when i get about to run out. I think its a safety feature
