First make sure that you are not low on transmission fluid. Usually, if it won't go into gear until you rev it up, that means it's low on fluid. If you have plenty of fluid, your Pressure Shift Solenoid on the transmission could be faulty. If you have never checked the level of transmission fluid before, you have to pull the stick with the vehicle hot and running. It's not like checking the oil. If it's low on the stick, you also have to have a special transmission fluid funnel to stick into the sleeve that you pulled the stick from.

I am having this same trouble with the transmission levr indicator stuck on reverse and the lever just feels loose when I move it up and down. It does not engage any gears at all. Anyone know the problem and possibly the needed repair.

A failed shift solenoid, or shift lock solenoid. Sounds like a needed trip to the transmission shop. Here's a link to your problem. http://www.ehow.com/list_7460536_symptoms-bad-transmission- solenoid.html

Unfortunately when an automatic starts acting up like that, it usually means it's time for a rebuild. You can try dropping the transmission pan, cleaning the filter and putting in new fluid. Odds are, it will need some major work. I checked consumer complaints and it's not uncommon for that year Uplander to have tranny issues around the 100k mark.

MINE JUST DID THE SAME THING. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE BUSHING IS BAD WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I ORDERED A GOOD ONE FROM BUSHING FIX.COM FOR $20. YOU CAN GO To ADVANCE AUTO, NAPA OR ORIELLYS. DONT GIVE YOUR MONEY TO ANTI FREEDOM AUTO ZONE. TAKE 2 15mm BOLTS OFF HOLDING THE SHIFT CABLE DOWN AND YOU HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM TO WORK ON IT.

Make sure your parking brake is not on. Also make sure it’s not froze up.

Simple anser could be shift cable bushing or the lower end disconnected from the transmission. Look down the.cable from the fire wall to the xmission.
