It sounds like you are having a shift interlock issue, when you press the brakes, do the brake lights come on? if not, then you have a faulty brake light switch under the dash, and the vehicle is not seeing the brakes on and not allowing it to come out of gear.
Cannot get the shift lever to move into gear. How can I fix it?
