i would buy a heat shield for the pcm AND the cold air intake cone.. it holds it in place, keeps it clean, and you get better performance. this is the setup i have on my 04 impala. the pcm is directly underneath the air filter, also incased in a heat shield
if you want better performance make ur air intake a fenderwell intake...having the cone right under the hood is only going to suck hot air...the fwi will suck in cold air and works better just and fyi..and for the pcm all you need to do is zip tie it to the frame and the shield will only restrict air flow
if your engine is the 3.8 check out this site: 3800performance.com
how would water get under the hood to affect the pcm? there is no need for a heat shield either. All you need to do is ount it so it doesnt bounce around...ill add a few pics of mine to help you out since i too have the 3.4l
heres another view...ive had mine done for almost 5 years now and live in chicago and have never had the pcm get wet or cause problems

Listen. The PCM Is in the air box for a reason. You can get a custom box made for the pcm to mount to the car. Water can get to it form the wheel well when you hit a puddle or drive in the rain or anything of that sort.
