how do we get the brakes to stop sticking and smoking?

Asked by Veroncia Jun 13, 2016 at 06:26 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband greased the callipalers twice the first time it lasted for about 8
months with no problem. The same problem started back up last month and
he regreased them this time cleaned it real good and put extra lubricate on
them, he took the truck for a test drive and the same problem started back
up. We don't know which route to take since both vehicles are on the fritz.
Do you think disabling the abs system would help?

Replace the guide pins / bolts (kit) that the calipers travel on, slide on make sure the the caliper piston(s) isn't sticking and causing the issue caliper itself! Use the best possibly grease Crc makes a decent bearing grease, Marine grease is excellent, even Nickel grade no seize compound. ABS is not the cause of this and is to useful to disable, if there is ever a crash lawyers will love knowing ABS was disabled.

I will say on alot of chevys a caliper sticking is a sign of a bad brake hose
