How many liters of oil goes into porsche 911

My 1991 911 took 17 quarts.

If totally empty, 12 quarts is the maximum, but you should start with less and add more up to the top of the dipstick after the car is started. Archebus - 17 quarts is way over-filled, you could be causing damage. Are you checking the level with the engine running?

Start with 8 quarts or 7 liters, with the car running and warmed-up, slowly add more oil to the filled mark on the dip-stick. Most likely will take about 10-11 quarts or 9-10 liters.

I was talking about changing the oil completely for which I was charged for 17 qts. by my service garage. I sold my car so I cannot verify.

Archebus Sorry but you were over charged for your oil change. Also everyone needs to keep in mind that pouring cold oil into a hot oil system in a running car and then measuring the level on the dip stick does not give the new oil sufficient time to expand with the heat. Let the car idle for a while to be sure of the level..

When I first got my 74 2.7 911 (in 86) I just kept filling it up until it read on the dipstick and then I started the engine .when the engine got warm it transfers the excess oil from the crankcase to the reserve tank because it's what they call a dry-sump engine no real oil hanging out at the bottom of the engine after a few minutes it started overflowing on the driveway. I put too much in .probably 14 or 15 quarts when the motor was cold .so NOW start with 12 warm up the engine and add until it reads properly on the dashboard gauge and the dipstick in the reservoir tank near the oil filter .74 2.7 no external oil cooler on mine.
