fire but no fuel

I have a 2005 Chevrolet 2500 HD 6.0 that made a loud pop and whistle while
sitting in the drive thru. I drove it home with no issue until I went to crank the
next morning. It fires but won't stay running....changed the timing chain and
gears ..still same issue. Can anyone help with troubleshooting.

Check to see if your fuel pump is working properly. Either the fuel pump or distributor will most likely be failing to feed fuel to the engine

Husband thought maybe it was the timing chain and gears but obviously that wasn't it. Still seeking answers , also the truck has coil on plug wires and no distributor. He purchased a fuel pump pressure tester to pick up tomorrow, guess we will know then..He has been a mechanic for 30 years but this has him stumped. We can hear the fuel pump kick in and seem like it works...but like Isaid , maybe know more after couple days. Thanks guys ...appreciate your help
