Should I buy A 1980 Porshe 924?
Asked by proodoodaboochoo Apr 22, 2014 at 12:39 PM about the 1980 Porsche 924
Question type: General
I already have a 2000 oldsmobile Alero, and the porshe is in really good condition. So, In the long term and in general, gas mileage, maintenance, etc. Is buying a quality old Porshe a good idea? or am I better off fixing up my Oldsmobile? The Porshe has 140,000 miles and my Olds has 180,000 miles on it. The Porshe has been fixed up and taken well care of. What are some unexpected pros and cons of making this investment?

If it has the Audi engine, in a word: no. If it has the 2.5L Porsche engine, it might be worth a look.
How much are they asking for it? Porsche (spelt with a 'C') will be a better long term investment and those 924 models can only go up in value. They are fairly straightforward cars to work on, and parts are not so expensive if you buy online.
They could ask $100 for the car and it still wouldn't be worth the risk if it has the Audi engine. Do your due diligence, the Audi engined cars are a Yugo in Porsche clothing.
I would have to disagree, the audi vw 2.0 liter is more reliable and better on gas then the 2.5, although it might be about 25hp less if you upgrade the exhaust on a 2.0 it can be just as fast as the 2.5

the Porsche 924 Audi / Porsche unit is a very reliable and durable engine once it is serviced regularly. I should know I drive one the last 31 years. I think Stephen is very negative towards the n.a. motor............busaman.
