Thats easy, there is no 944-1 or 944-2. The only 944 models are: 1983 - 1987 944 (2.5L 150 hp) 1988 944 (2.5L 158 hp) 1987 - 1988 944S (2.5L 188 hp) 1989 944 (2.7 L 162 hp) 1989 - 1991 944 S2 3.0L 208 hp 1986 - 1988 944 Turbo (951) (217 hp) 1988 - 1991 944 Turbo S (951) (250 hp) The cars are essentially the same body with varying engines, suspension, bodykits and seats.

he meant how do you know a 1985/1 from a 1985/2 , and I own the 85/2, the dash will be the easiest difference to tell, look up the two dashes on google, the second one, like mine has a more round dash and upgraded suspension

That must be a USA only marketing option. Rest of the world did not receive 944-1 or 944-2

it isnt a 944 1 or 2, its the fact that they produced 2 different models in the 85 year, there was an early and a late model in 85

If your 1985 Porsche 944 has a dash that looks the "old" style dash from a 924 (ex. google "1984 Porsche 924 interior")---->you have the early model 944. If it doesn't- -->you have the late model '85.

Yes, the old 1985 1/2. The 944 came out in 1983 and had the first major model change in mid-1985, quite unusual. I have the 1984 944, which uses the same parts as the "early" 1985. I got a great laugh when a new young guy in the Porsche dealer's parts department didn't believe me when I was looking for a part and this came up. He told me that they don't change models of cars in the middle of the year, and he couldn't be convinced otherwise. But it is true.
