Where should we start?

Asked by Harli Jan 04, 2024 at 10:07 AM about the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our vehicle will shift into second and third gear and
stay stuck there.
One shop is telling us we need a whole new
transmission,  another is telling us our transmission
wire harness is bad, and another is telling us we need
a new ignition switch.

Ignition switch is obviously the cheapest option. Any
input on this? Where should we start

Are they all grease monkeys? Anybody run a code check or a live data scan? I hate to say it but if that is the kind of shops you have around, you might be better off with the dealer.

So you've lost overdrive and TCC lock in. A typical GM transmission failure. It will cost more to fix this 20 year old vehicle than what it's worth. Time to move on. I'd start with shopping for a newer vehicle! Hope that helps! Jim
