Low voltage on battery
Asked by Myrtle01 Feb 21, 2015 at 05:35 PM about the 2008 Cadillac CTS
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
All warning lights come on. Cadillac
service department says it's showing
low voltage on battery. They replaced
battery. Two days later same thing but
now having additional problems with
power steering. Told it was mass air
regulator. Four days later car will not
start. Now they say I need an
alternator. Why would that not have
been checked the first time when they
saw the battery was being drained?

A) you took it to a Cadillac dealership. B) Every new car dealership is looking to make as much money on you as possible. C) they just proved my point exactly! Stop taking the car to a new car dealership. Find a good REPUTABLE independent mechanic.
Initially it sounded like a parasitic battery drain problem. Power steering is a hydraulic system and should be unrelated, even on a Cadillac. Suggestion would be to seek out a different Cadillac service department although this service department's recommendations will probably be on file for another service department to access.
Well Jim we can agree to disagree. I have a few friends who worked for new car dealerships as mechanics. They have opened their own successful independent garages and told me plenty of stories of how ase certified mechanics who do as they are told by the service managers. The new car stores are just looking to make money, first. Customer service is second place. There are plenty of well qualified independent mechanics who are as good and better than the new car dealership guys. Not saying they aren't qualified or anything like that but they don't run and control the service department. The general manager, service manager and service writers do.
