Should I buy a 2008 Subaru Outback with a rebuilt engine?

Asked by Ridgeline_896 Mar 12, 2017 at 07:41 PM about the 2008 Subaru Outback

Question type: General

I am thinking about purchasing a 2008 Subaru Outback with a rebuilt engine. The rebuilt engine has 55,000 miles on it and the car itself has 123,446. When the engine was rebuilt it had a new timing belt put in as well. I am wondering if you would advise this to be a good purchase, or a concern because of the rebuilt engine?
Many thanks!

And $8250 is a high price to pay for this. I would think somewhere around $3000 to $4000.

I steer clear of rebuilt in the description, In my experience it means lemon, drove hard, abused, little if any servicing & maintenance. Bad buy, it has less than half of 300k miles and had to be rebuilt.

If you could find out who exactly rebuilt it, it might be a good car. It probably was a dealer under warranty so if the price is right which it is not..............................I might consider it.

Even if this car had 69,000 miles, adjusted for the new engine, it would not even be worth $8250.... Offer them $6,000 if the car is in remarkable condition..... Really depends on who did the work, what EXACTLY did they do, are they giving you the receipt for the work....
