How do you check transmission fluid on a
2008 Chevy HHR automatic

From underneath the car at the fill plug. It's not an easy DIY. Have a shop check it for you. Are you leaking it?

They are considered to have "lifetime transmission fluid" and do not have a standard serviceable fluid access... Jack up the vehicle and look. It is not too difficult to spot the drain and fill plugs in the housing.
