What's the name of the metal pieces that connects the door handles on the inside that the metal rods connect to?

I need to know what the metal piece inside my driver door is called the rod that comes
from the exterior handle hooks on one end of it another metal rod comes from the inside
handle and hooks to the other end of the metal piece it is the working mechanism for the
door handles or the opening of the door it is inside the door were the window goes down
in it .

Are you describing the door latch mechanism? It is all one piece.
