Chrysler 2008 rear axle failure at speed
Our van has twice had the rear axle brace that fastened the right wheel to
the body just snap at low speeds. The last was 3 days ago 600 miles from
home the wheel started flopping and whopping ,almost overturned us,lucky
we were going only 40 MPH at the time. the new break was about 4 inches
from the first one that happened 6 months ago . The first time we got a
speciality welding shop to carefully repair and sand it so you could not see
it after repair.. Well ,we got 2 vice grips out and clamped it together with a
flat piece of metal ,we carefully drove at 10 MPH to a little country welding
shop my relatives suggested . They put a 16 inch piece of small angle all
along the area ,welded it good, waved us away at no charge ,and we went
on with our trip ,900 miles later ,we are safe home....Chrysler won't talk at
all about it. My question is ,should we just replace the axle and risk having
it all happen again ,or should we just beef up both axle arms that hold the
back wheels to the body of the vehicle?
