Will 10w-30 motor oil instead of 5w-20 damage my V6 2008 Honda Accord?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I added a quart of 10w-30 motor oil instead of the recommended 5w-20 to my V6 2008 Honda Accord.  Will this damage my engine?  The car has approximately 5,400 miles on it and 50% oil life remaining.  Also if you go a little beyond the top of the fill line will that result in engine damage?  Thank you for any advice you can provide.

First question, yes.. The heavier weight oil will damage the oil pump.. Second question, It depends.. Adding too much oil can cause valves to leak, seals to blow, oil pump to fail.. So it really depends on how much over the fill line you are...

Thanks Michael, it looks a little too much over the fill line. I'm going to take it in tomorrow for an oil change and new oil filter. Thanks very much for your information.
