not sure you may have already checked and if so sorry I couldn't help... But depending on how hot it has gotten it could have a cracked head or need a head gasket, also could be something less invasive like a thermostat or even a water pump.....

You stated "get hot won't start". Question..does the vehicle runs for a short period before getting hot? If the answer is yes..with the vehicle running check for collapsed radiators hoses. You should also determine if the cooling fans are working properly. One other thing is to remove the thermostat put it a pot of water bring to a boil. If the thermostat opens then the problem is not the thermostat. If none of these suggestions figures into your problems, check the oil dip stick for a milky substance...if it's that..water and oil are mixing..then dav48 has nailed it.
