Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car has been sitting for a bit, went to try and drive
it and brakes wouldn't work... does this car need to
be primed first? Is that a thing?

Could be. Or it could be an issue with the braking system, failed master cylinder seals, or a leaking brake line. Book Knowledge Source: Amazon Search; Jesus Roberto Auto.

Remove the top of the master cylinder and check the brake fluid level. Is it low or empty? If so you have a leak in the brake system that needs to be fixed. Once fixed the brake system will need to be bled. Also the rear brake shoes will need to be adjusted. If you don't have front disc brakes (optional in 1970) you will need to adjust the front brake shoes as well. Hope that helps! Jim
