Engine problem

Asked by Jessica Jan 11, 2020 at 04:32 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car stopped running while driving, so if it were running out of gas.I tied to
restart it, but no luck. I was low on gas, so I put some gas in and it started. It
seemed to be hesitating though, so I added more gas, and drove off. It
sounds louder and rougher than usual and seemed like it may stall, the engine
light began flashing as well, so I got it off the road. the next day in drove it for
a couple miles to test it and experienced the same problems. I noticed that
the problems seemed worse and I was idle at a stoplight and also whenever I
accelerated. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Is the check engine light on? Any codes being set?

As Ken asked, need to know what the check engine light code is. Running rough like this and a flashing CEL usually is a bad coil. Can help more with the code.

Thank you. I drove it over to AutoZone yesterday, to try and get a code, but the port didn't register a readind. They tried with to separate devices. So, I'm now on my way to get a fuse, to hopefully remedy the situation, so I can't get access to a code. Yes, the check engine light is on, and goes back and forth from flashing, to staying lit. Thanks again, so much for responding. Once I receive a code, I will post that information.

The CEL will flash when the engine is actively misfiring. If it gets bad enough it will wither go into limp mode or shutoff. So if you see your CEL flashing back off on the throttle and expedite getting repairs made.

Finally got the code, which is po306. From what I understand, it could be ignition coil or spark plug wire.. Any idea of how much this should cost?

You can look up parts prices on any web store, they're not that much. Basically you just need a tune up, new spark plugs, plug wires, coils, a new cap/rotor wouldn't hurt, clean or replace your filters too.
