Rims for my Cutlass.. What will fit. what would look good?

Find some Cutlass Supreme Rally rims. Same bolt pattern and size and they are sharp looking. Plus they are factory rims from various late 70's and 80's Oldsmobiles like yours. Has some on a 77 Regal I had and they looked sharp. They had the GM emblem in the centercap. So, I wonder if Buick, Chevy, and Pontiac models with the same looking rims have the same centercap.

i believe the wheels you are refering to are commonly known as SS III's or II's (N 71/72). they were available for most if not all cutlass series cars, in '77 it most likely would have been the 15X7 5 on 4 3/4" bolt pattern wheel. after 1976 GM downsized the b/c bodys and used this pattern on the b bodys, with an option for a 5 on 5"(HD brake 12" front rotor), wheel. i've heard there maybe a few 5 0n 5 olds SS wheels used on the indy pacecar optioned delta 88, thery are similiar in appeareance. buick used a 5 on 4 3/4" and a 5 on 5 chrome HD steel roadwheel, it does not look like the olds wheel, but it will fit on certain cars. pontiacs also came with a similar size, but it didn't look much like the olds. wheel, more like the buick, but not the same. pontiac also offered a 15X8 wheel, but its commonly called a snowflake wheel, these are uncommon, with the 15X7 being more common in either configuration, buick painted their rally wheel on a few optional cars around then, i think they were all orange. if anyone has more info. i'd be glad to know it. but this guy doesn't want these, he wants wagon wheels 'yo, they are out there, i seen pictures of them, not sure if any mods have to be made to the steering/suspension.

typically Olds. used the upper body color(on vehicles that had a two-paint color scheme option), for the wheel paint color. if your entire vehicle is the same color, then paint them to match the car. if you would like to paint them similiar to the SS III's,(argent silver), there are a few places selling speciality paint for this purpose(Eastwood). either way is probably correct depending on the year/model vehicle you intend to put these on. if you'r car has 14" wheels on it, Olds. also made a similiar wheel to the 15", i think the bezels may have had a slightly different appearance. center caps also varied slightly through the years, some had a colored matched center area. trim rings in the earlier 1970's had a chrome finish, or polished stainless steel, somewhere around 1975 they went to a brushed stainless steel ring. i know in 1976/77 they were brushed. i think the lug nuts used on the speciality wheels were a stainless steel acorn style(3/4"), i have used the chrome style ones and they look ok, however they are 13/16" so you may need a different lug wrench. Olds. also offered an optional rear view mirrors(sport), they were commonly painted to match the body color and/or wheels. if that were my '82 Cutlass i'd either do: a) (if it has 14" wheels), find some early 1980's wheels and paint them to match the car, maybe go with some P21570R15 tires, or b) see if there was a 15" wheel option available for that chasis(i think the H/O's used 15's), get some of those paint them to match the car and go with maybe P22570R15's, possibly some 60R15's, i have them on my '76, not sure if they will fit under the downsized cutlass's.

Yeah there 14's just found the paint code spray them soon, i'll upload pics when she's all said and done! and ill keep my eyes open for some p215's, would i need 15" beauty rings? or 14" beauty rings? couple of them are a little on the rough side..

hey, the 15" use 15" rings and the 14" use 14's, i think you'll also need a different attachment hook to hold the spare tire/wheel in the trunk on top of the jack, if you use a rallye wheel(5 th), as a spare. be sure that the tire shop mounting the new tires uses the shorter style valve stems, usually the chrome steel ones are like this. the reason is the longer rubber style ones stick out beyond the trim ring and if that ring should come off when your jammin down the highway, it might tear the valve stem off with it, instant flat tire.

The rims Before Paint

yep, those are the ones, I have the identical thing sittin in my garage, except they are 15". mine came off of a '75 or '76. two of them were white and two of them cranberry(maroon), colored. i didn't know what i was going to eventually do with them so i sanded them down and sprayed them with argent silver paint(like yours). i figured that way i could match them to any color car without repainting them, that was four years ago. they are a good salvage yard score because they seem to be alot of them and they usually don't sell for much. i think they(GM), used higher PSI welds on those wheels then the standard 6" width wheels. i think your wheels have a slightly differet contour on those stainless steel trim pieces that fit into those triangular shaped cut-outs than the 70's ones, looks like an eighties wheel to me though. i have a set of white painted ones on my '76 cutlass supreme brougham with BFG P22560R15 T/A's, i think thats the widdest tire i can fit under there without interference problems or modifing anything. i also had a suspension shop install a AGR 12:1 steering box. this was a gigantic improvement in the way the car handles. it got rid of that "boaty" nuetral feal common with these chasis. made it much more resposive and positive. the optional front and rear HD factory sway bars help alot too, and these aren;t very expensive from the salvage yards, and i believe your rear lowere control arms come predrilled from the factory, so if you want them and don't have them it's a simple bolt-in deal.

Awesome, the inside of these rims have some surface rust, what do you think i should use for sandpaper? rust paint? clear coat? how many coats?

hey, i'd use some of that fine grit red looking stuff you get at the auto body/paint supply store, maybe 320 grit. get some scotchbrite too. maybe some of that rust remover gel might be what you need for the backs of the wheels. your wheels are in good overall condition, so rough-up the painted areas, wash them off with soapy water, then get some of that engine paint(satin black), and spray the backs and the center section(the area not visible when the tire is mounted). at this point you need to make a descision as how to go about painting the body colored area(outside). do you: a) call around to a few auto body shops and see if anyone is willing to make an approximate color match to your car and paint the wheels for whatever they charge, i'd guess it wouldn't be too much, might take them a while to get to it though. that doesn't seem to be a problem because you already got wheels on your car. or b) try to figure out what you need and buy it along with the tools/equipment needed to paint these things,. the supply house can/will sell you the right stuff, results may vary with skill/conditions. you need a place to do this and auto. paint is some toxic stuff, some areas won't let you do this at home and if the neighbors smell it and make a issue out of it who knows. also with approch "b" you may end up with "extra" stuff that will eventually get thrown away and that wastes money. Maaco will probably be willing to paint them at a reasonable cost and you get a gaurentee on materials, so i reccomend not "priming" over the paint so they can see whats there. they can decide if paint removal/priming is needed. when i had them do my '76 they said "a body" GM cars didn't have that laquer paint like B/C bodies, this made repainting much simpler/cheaper. my outlook on car repairs, don't overestimate your manitude, no when to call the pro's and in the long run you may end-up with a better less expensive job.

A set of 18" Iroc wheels will make the car stand out. There are plenty of many different varieties of rims to choose from at the local Rims and tire shop.

I know this is an old post but my mom and dads only car was an 82 Olds Cutlass Supreme 4 door sedan dark blue and dark blue interior. My parents never owned a car till that 1982. My mom died of Leukemia that year and my father 6 years later. I drove the car to Denver but the 6 cyl made a bunch of noise all the way. My friends son so used it for a while till some scum broke out every window on the car. We had the car taken for junk but I sure wish I had it now. Old memories never die. Any way if you would like to sell it it would be a dream come true. I'm sure you must have sold it by now but if you know who might own it now Please ask if they would be willing to let it go.
