I have an 85 Cutlass Supreme and the headlights won't go on

Asked by Neilio91 Sep 28, 2014 at 09:10 PM about the 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I turn on my lights the indicators for the turn signals and the brights light up but
no lights actually go on. If I put on the hazards or a turn signal they work.

This first started back in April when it was dark and I tried putting my brights on. When
I did so, the lights went out but my inside lights were still on. When I closed my door
the lights went back on so I just didn't turn on my brights again.

Now it happened again and I don't remember anything out of the ordinary happening but
it is almost 30 years old.

Any thoughts to how I can fix this?

It sounds like the headlight switch and/or turn signal/headlight high low switch in the column. Not the turn signal lever. Being that it is almost 30 years old it could be wiring as well but I would start with the switches.
